How the Swop Shop Works

1.  The Freshstart Volunteers source items for trading.

2.  The children collect  recyclable materials, glass, tin, plastic, cardboard.

3.  The Volunteers meet on Wednesday lunch time to open the Swop-Shop, stack the shelves and organise the day’s activity.

4.  The children form an orderly queue to await the opening of the gates.

5.  The Swop-Shop opens for “business” and the children get their collections weighed.

6.  Mula points are allocated for items collected.

7.    The children collect their record card and enter the Swop-Shop.

8.  A “personal shopper” helps the children with their choices, Mula points are traded for goods, or points may be saved for a “special dream”.

9.  The children hand in their record card, their trade or savings recorded, then they receive a piece of fruit.

10.  The children leave with their new purchases.

11.  Volunteers review stock and close the shop.
